Staff Spotlight: Tychelle Graham-Moskowitz, BA, LICSWA, CDP Meet Tychelle Graham-Moskowitz, one of the compassionate providers in DAWN’s mental health program. Tychelle believes that choosing to begin therapy, or to begin again, is a meaningful act of self-trust and care. For survivors, that first step can feel tender, brave, and deeply personal. Tychelle brings warmth, curiosity, and care into that space, helping clients feel supported as they better understand themselves, their emotions, and their relationships. Whether someone is navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions, or simply trying to make sense of their inner world, Tychelle walks alongside them with compassion and respect. Her goal is to help clients build clarity, healthier communication, deeper self-understanding, and a stronger connection to themselves. Tychelle’s therapeutic style is holistic, client-centered, and grounded in the belief that while our experiences shape us, they do not have to define us. She draws from somatic, narrative, psychodynamic, trauma-informed, and inner-child practices to support healing, growth, deeper communication, and radical self-love. Outside the therapy room, you’ll likely find Tychelle playing with her dog Brisket, reading, hiking, listening to podcasts, or saving recipes on social media that she may or may not ever make. A quote that inspires Tychelle comes from Audre Lorde: “If I didn’t define myself for myself, I would be crunched into other people’s fantasies for me and eaten alive.” For Tychelle, this speaks to the heart of her work: helping people define themselves on their own terms as they move forward in their lives, relationships, and healing.
Six months ago, “Elena” met with a DAWN advocate to create a Family Violence Services Plan. At the time, she was facing barrier after barrier: unstable housing, ongoing legal concerns, and the reality of trying to survive on just $540 per month in TANF support. One of her deepest goals was to reunite with her child, who had been staying with relatives because Elena did not yet have stable housing. Step by step, with safety planning, advocacy, and connections to housing and legal resources, Elena kept moving forward. At her six-month plan update, she shared the kind of news that stays with us: She has safe and stable housing. She successfully navigated her legal concerns with support from DAWN’s legal advocate. She returned to school to continue her education. And most importantly, she has been reunited with her child. This progress belongs to Elena. Her strength, persistence, and hard work carried her through an incredibly difficult season. And because of donor support, DAWN was able to walk alongside her with the resources, guidance, and advocacy she needed to turn barriers into milestones. Your support helps survivors move from crisis toward stability, safety, and the futures they are working so hard to build. If you are experiencing abuse and facing housing, legal, financial, or family barriers, DAWN is here. You do not have to figure it all out alone.

Leaving abuse is complicated. Leaving with a pet can be even harder. For many survivors, pets are family, comfort, and a source of safety. But when shelters cannot accommodate animals, survivors may delay leaving because they refuse to abandon a beloved pet. Through DAWN’s pet-friendly shelter work, supported by an OVC Pet Shelter grant, we are helping remove that barrier so survivors and their pets can seek safety together. Because healing should never require leaving love behind. 🐾
Staff Spotlight: Monica A. Wood, LICSW Meet Monica A. Wood, one of the caring hearts behind DAWN’s mental health program. Monica says it is a true privilege to be part of this work because she believes even the smallest moments of support can create ripples of healing that reach across generations. For survivors, that can mean having someone beside them who listens without judgment, honors their story, and helps them move toward healing at a pace that feels right. Monica brings warmth, compassion, and deep respect into the therapy room. She works to create a space where clients feel accepted, encouraged, and understood. Her approach is collaborative, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and empowering, with survivors leading the way in their own healing. “I carry profound compassion and admiration for those impacted by intimate partner violence,” Monica shares. “Their courage, strength, and resilience offer hope to their loved ones and help light the path toward breaking the cycle of violence in our communities.” Outside of work, Monica enjoys baking, camping, going to the beach, gardening, practicing self-care, and spending time in nature with her family. A quote that stays close to Monica’s heart is from Les Misérables by Victor Hugo: “Even the darkest night will end, and the sun will rise.” For Monica, it is a reminder she hopes survivors can hold onto too: even the darkest days can pass, and the sun can shine once more. 🌅

After two years of homelessness, moving between shelters and transitional housing, “Ari” and her family were ready for something steady. When Ari reconnected with DAWN through the CSO program, she was working hard to find stability while also preparing to welcome a new baby. With support from her CSO Advocate, she was connected to additional community resources and, finally, permanent housing. But finding housing is only one part of beginning again. A new home needs diapers. Clothing. Basic household items. Gas to get to prenatal appointments. The everyday essentials that turn an empty space into a place where a family can breathe. Through DAWN Marketplace and donor support, Ari was able to stock her new home with basic needs, receive diapers and clothing for her baby, and get a gas card so she could make it to her prenatal appointments. She shared immense gratitude for the support, and her story reminds us that safety and stability are built piece by piece. Your support helps survivors and families move from crisis into a future with more security, dignity, and hope. Because sometimes the next chapter starts with a roof, a stocked shelf, a full tank of gas, and someone saying, “We’re here with you.” If you are experiencing abuse, housing instability, or struggling to meet basic needs while trying to stay safe, DAWN is here. You do not have to do this alone.
