Katie joined DAWN’s Board because she believes in creating a community where survivors are empowered and safe. With 20+ years in the multifamily industry, she uses her operational expertise to help DAWN build supportive spaces for those who need them most. But her biggest role? Mom. She’s raising three amazing kids — Jaxson (11), Kane (8), and Remi (4) — and is motivated every day to help create a world worthy of them. She’s also a proud dog mom to MoMo and Biggie, loves reading, and cherishes time laughing with friends. Her message to survivors is full of compassion and hope: 💬 “Your strength is immense, even if you don't feel it right now. You are not alone, and there is a path forward.” We’re grateful for Katie’s leadership, her heart, and her commitment to DAWN’s mission. 💜 👉 Tag a mom who inspires you. #DAWNStrong #DAWNBoard #SupportSurvivors #PurpleLightNights

💜 A message to our community: With gratitude in our hearts, we want to share an important step forward. DAWN’s Board and Leadership have decided to sell our Gowe Street office building. This choice isn’t about leaving—it’s about growing. And it’s possible because of you. You’ve shown us that survivors deserve more privacy and safety than our current office can provide. You’ve reminded us that stability matters, and so proceeds from this sale will be invested to sustain DAWN’s services long into the future. You’ve trusted us to steward resources wisely, and this move frees up more funding to go directly where it’s needed most: survivors. What will not change is DAWN’s deep roots in South King County. Our confidential shelter remains here in Kent. Our partnerships with this community remain strong. And your steady support continues to fill our hearts with gratitude. As DAWN approaches 50 years of service, we are building not just for today but for decades to come. Thank you for walking with us into this new chapter. #DAWNRising #CommunityImpact #DVAM #Leadership #NonprofitSustainability

What does community look like? Sometimes it looks like a Saturday morning, a stack of plywood, and a group of neighbors with rollers and purple paint. On September 17, volunteers joined us at DAWN’s Gowe HQ to bring to life 22 “Silent Witness” silhouettes. Each figure represents a survivor of domestic violence—and each will stand at our Purple Light Nights events this fall as a visible reminder of both loss and hope. We want to thank the Kent Rotary members and community members for giving their time and for showing up with such heart. 💜 Purple Light Nights began right here in Covington in 2007 and now spans more than 30 states and abroad. This year, you can be part of it: TONIGHT! Sept. 25 – Kent Reception + Walk Sept. 27 – Covington Walk + Tree Lighting Oct. 6 – Renton Walk + Proclamation Your presence matters. Come walk beside us, see the silhouettes, and help shine light where there’s too often silence. 👉 Learn more and RSVP: https://dawnrising.org/events/ #PurpleLightNights #DVAM #CommunityStrong #DAWNRising

Earlier this month, DAWN staff stepped away from the everyday hustle for our All Staff Retreat — an annual tradition of appreciation, team-building, and well-earned fun. ✅ Pizza-making showdown ✅ Team challenges (with a little healthy competition 😉) ✅ Surprise self-care moment ✅ Connection + free time to recharge These retreats aren’t just a perk. They’re part of how we stay strong together — so we can show up even stronger for the survivors and families we serve every day. Big thanks to our fearless leader Gina Finley for making space for restoration, joy, and genuine connection. 💜 #TeamDAWN #StaffAppreciation #WorkCulture #SelfCareMatters #TeamBuilding #DVAM #PurpleLightNights #NonprofitLife

Volunteer Spotlight: Carissa Fassett “When I realized I was never going to be the person I was before the trauma… there was freedom in that. I could let go of how I thought my life would be and reinvent myself.” Carissa is one of DAWN’s quiet heroes. You won’t see her at the front of the shelter. But you will feel her presence in every act of support she offers — filing, organizing, showing up with care — all because she knows what it’s like to need a safe place and not have one. More about Carissa: A survivor of both domestic violence and deep trauma Spent 8 years displaced and unhoused Now thriving with her children and 7 grandkids Winning art contests and writing a powerful memoir Choosing to walk in gratitude, not bitterness Carissa gives her time to DAWN because she believes in the futures these women are building. Even the work no one sees — she knows it matters. Her words to other survivors? “You are loved. You have value. You matter. Give yourself space to heal.” Let’s honor Carissa by lifting up her story. Comment 🙏 to thank her. 📩 Reach out to learn how you can give back too: development@dawnrising.org #DAWNVolunteer #PurpleLightNights #SurvivorWisdom #DomesticViolenceAwareness #VolunteerSpotlight #HealingInCommunity #DAWNHeroes
